The City of Las Vegas Building and Safety Department handles building permits, electronic plan review, inspections, and building-code compliance inside the City of Las Vegas. Much of the Las Vegas Valley is outside the city and is served by Clark County or another incorporated city, so verify the project address with the City’s jurisdiction tools before submitting.

Las Vegas permit process

Use the City’s official online building permits page to apply for eligible permits, submit electronic plans, pay fees, and manage a project. Simple permits that do not require plans can be submitted through the City’s online permit service; larger commercial, residential, and civil projects follow the City’s electronic plan submittal process. Review the applicable building code, required plans, valuation, and any planning, zoning, fire, or off-site approvals before paying fees.

Inspections, zoning, and occupancy

After permit issuance, keep the approved plans and permit card at the job site and request inspections as construction reaches each required stage. The City directs customers to its inspection scheduling service and lists (702) 229-6914 for inspection dispatch. Building and Safety coordinates with planning, zoning, fire, and other reviewing agencies where the project requires those approvals.

For permit status, plan-review comments, inspection results, and permit-card reprints, use the City’s Check Status service. A certificate of occupancy or other occupancy approval may be required before a building or tenant space is used; confirm the occupancy requirements for the project’s use and scope with Building and Safety.
