What to check in South Dakota
South Dakota has no statewide residential code. Cities that adopt the 2024 IRC cannot make it stricter, and for buildings begun after July 1, 2026 the 2024 IBC is the default for non-residential construction where no local ordinance exists.
Local codes; state IBC default for non-residential buildings. An address inside an incorporated city or another local jurisdiction may be served by a separate building department.
