Topeka building permits and the Cityworks portal

Development Services safeguards public health and safety by interpreting and enforcing the city’s adopted construction codes and by inspecting buildings, structures and sites for compliance. Prepare the project scope, plans, site information, contractor credentials and any required zoning or development approvals before submitting. Inspections, zoning, code compliance and occupancy

The city asks for inspection requests at least 24 hours in advance through Development Services. Keep the permit and approved plans available and do not cover work that still requires inspection.

The city’s current code and ordinance materials govern when a Certificate of Occupancy is required; the building official must issue the applicable occupancy approval before a covered building or change of occupancy is used.
