- Building codes and permits outside city limits depend on whether the county has adopted codes by resolution; a county's adopted code must be filed with the county clerk and open for public inspection.
- Contractor licensing
- Roofing contractors, including subcontractors and out-of-state contractors, must hold a registration certificate from the Attorney General. Cities and counties that choose to license HVAC contractors and mechanics must use state-designated exams (K.S.A. 12-1541 and 12-1542). What is different in Kansas
- A builder or seller of a new, never-occupied home of up to four units must give buyers a Kansas Energy Efficiency Disclosure before the purchase contract is signed (K.S.A. 66-1228).
- Acting as a roofing contractor without registration exposes the contractor to civil penalties under the Kansas Consumer Protection Act and bars suits to collect payment.
