Finding the right permit office

  1. Identify the exact property address and municipality.
  2. Confirm whether the city, town, township, borough, parish, county, or regional authority serves that address.
  3. Ask which permits, zoning approvals, plan reviews, and inspections apply to the project.
  4. Keep the official portal, permit number, approved plans, and inspection instructions together.

What to check in Colorado

Colorado has no statewide building code for private construction. Each city and county sets its own code and permit rules, and since 2023 any local code update must include a qualifying energy code.

Local codes; state energy-code minimums. An address inside an incorporated city or another local jurisdiction may be served by a separate building department.
