Arapahoe County’s Building Division issues permits, reviews construction plans, and inspects work in the unincorporated parts of Arapahoe County only. The county expressly tells applicants to check their jurisdiction before proceeding. Addresses within Aurora, Centennial, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Littleton, or another municipality may be subject to that municipality’s building department instead of Arapahoe County.

For a county-served property, the official Building Division page directs applicants to Customer Access for permit applications, document uploads, communications with case reviewers, inspection scheduling, and fee payments. The county publishes separate residential and commercial guides, required electronic file-naming conventions, permit forms, and adopted-code resources. A complete application is important because the county posts estimated first-round review times of 6–8 weeks for lower-value projects and solar permits and 10–12 weeks for projects over $100,000.

Inspections are scheduled through Customer Access, and the county also provides a public scheduled-inspections report. The county says that plumbing and electrical license reviews are performed during normal inspections under Colorado legislation. Applicants should keep plans, permit information, and required documents available and confirm the inspection window through the official portal or county inspection report.

Zoning and land-use review are handled through the county’s Public Works and Development department for unincorporated territory. The county’s Land Development Code states that erecting, constructing, reconstructing, altering, or changing the use of a building or structure in unincorporated Arapahoe County requires a building permit, and the plans must conform to applicable county regulations and adopted building codes. Zoning staff can help determine whether a use determination, subdivision, or other land-use process is needed before a building application.
