The City of Albany Department of Buildings and Regulatory Compliance (BRC) is the municipal building and code authority for property inside Albany. Albany County is the surrounding county and may have separate responsibilities for county-regulated facilities, but a City of Albany construction permit, zoning, inspection, or occupancy question belongs with the City department.

Certificates of occupancy and residential occupancy permits

For a construction project certificate of occupancy, the permit holder must submit the required application, certifications, as-built information, and applicable agency sign-offs before final inspection. Albany also requires a Residential Occupancy Permit for rental dwellings, with registration and inspection requirements separate from a construction CO.
