The City specifically directs projects outside its jurisdiction to the Missoula County Building Division, so confirm the parcel boundary before applying.

Missoula building permits and Accela search

Use Missoula’s Accela Citizen Access portal to apply for permits, view records, search by permit number or address, pay fees, and check application status. The City’s building guidance recommends beginning with the project type and applicable code checklist, then submitting complete plans and supporting information through the portal. Missoula inspections and certificate of occupancy

After a permit is issued and paid, schedule inspections through Accela, the inspection phone line at (406) 552-6040, or Missoula’s text service by texting SCHEDULE to 888-413-4439. The City says inspections must be scheduled by 4 p.m. on the prior day and that approved plans should remain available at the site.

Missoula’s residential inspection guide says a certificate of occupancy must be requested rather than being issued automatically. Final building and related trade inspections, commercial fire inspection, land-use and zoning conditions, public-works permits, and any required easements must be complete before the request can be approved. Certificates of occupancy generally do not apply to ordinary remodels or alterations.
