Paducah’s Fire Prevention Division and Construction Division handle municipal building, electrical, construction, and code-enforcement services inside the City of Paducah. McCracken County and other municipalities use their own jurisdictional paths. The city’s Online Services Portal supports Paducah permit and plan applications, records, reviews, inspection results, and code cases.

Paducah building permits and EnerGov

Use the City of Paducah Online Services Portal to apply for commercial and residential building, planning, and construction permits; submit subdivision, development, rezoning, and sign applications; track application status and reviews; view permit and inspection records; and pay invoices and fees. The city requires permits before construction or remodeling begins, and its permitting guide explains the project-specific documents and approvals that may be required.

Paducah’s planning department handles zoning and development-plan work, including zone changes, conditional uses, subdivisions, and Board of Adjustment matters. Use the city’s Scope My Project tools and contact the Planning Department before applying when a proposed use, site plan, historic property, sign, fence, or land-disturbance activity may require additional review.

Inspections, code compliance, and certificates of occupancy

Paducah’s construction process commonly includes footing, foundation, rough-frame, and final inspections. Schedule construction inspections with the Fire Prevention Division at least 24–48 hours ahead and have the permit number, property address, project type, contact information, and inspection type ready. The division also handles electrical inspections, housing and zoning code enforcement, and construction records.

A final inspection is required before occupancy. Paducah states that a Certificate of Occupancy is required for new businesses, new residential uses, and changes of use, and that no building may be used or occupied until the code official issues the required certificate under KBC §111.1.
