The City of Bowling Green Building Division issues building and electrical permits and performs local plan review and construction inspections inside the city limits. The city requires permits for construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, demolition, change of use, electrical work, site work, fences, signs, pools, manufactured homes, and other listed activities. Preliminary reviews may be submitted by email to the Building Division when the applicant is not registered through the Contractors Licensing Board. Inspections, plan review, and occupancy

Required progress inspections include footing excavation, foundation, under-floor, concrete floors, framing, rough-ins, energy, sprinkler, lath or gypsum board, penetrations, right-of-way, sidewalks or drives, and final inspection. Plan review confirms that submitted documents meet applicable building-code and local requirements. A final inspection is required before occupancy, and the city lists a Certificate of Occupancy fee following an approved final inspection. Zoning and subdivision questions should be coordinated with the Warren County Planning Commission, especially when a site is near or outside city limits.
