  • House File 2800, signed June 2, 2026, removed Iowa's state electrical amendments; Iowa now enforces the unamended 2023 NEC except for exclusions written into HF2800.
  • The residential energy code (2012 IECC with Iowa amendments) applies to new residential construction of three or fewer stories throughout the state, but not to remodeling of one- and two-family homes.
  • Iowa's IRC amendments delete the IRC requirement for sprinklers in new one- and two-family homes and townhouses.
