Sacramento building permits and plan review

The Building Division protects public safety through construction regulation, plan review, field inspections, and building-code enforcement. Sacramento’s online-services page directs applicants to the Public Permit Portal for permit applications that do not require plan review and to the electronic plan-check process for projects requiring plans and supporting documents. Planning and zoning approvals may be needed in addition to a building permit.

Inspections, code compliance, and certificates of occupancy

The City says a Certificate of Occupancy is required for commercial new buildings, additions, remodels, and tenant improvements when the commercial use changes; the main and associated permits must pass final inspections and fees must be paid before a C of O is processed.
