The City of Grand Rapids Development Center is the local permitting and inspection authority for work inside Grand Rapids. How to apply for a Grand Rapids building permit

Inspections, plan review, and certificates of occupancy

The contractor schedules building and trade inspections through Citizen Access after an eligible permit is issued. Grand Rapids asks the requester for the permit number or address, inspection type, site contact, and access instructions. Required inspections must be approved before work advances to the next phase. After final building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and other required approvals, the city can issue a Certificate of Occupancy for qualifying commercial or occupied projects; approved land-use work may receive a Certificate of Completion.
