The City of Atlanta Department of City Planning’s Office of Buildings issues building and trade permits, conducts inspections, enforces construction codes, and supports zoning and land-use compliance inside the City of Atlanta. Fulton County’s service guide separately identifies county building permits as an unincorporated-county service, so an Atlanta address should use the city process rather than the Fulton County county portal.

Atlanta building permits and Accela

Atlanta’s Accela Citizen Access portal is the city’s online entry point for permit applications, payments, permit records, and public-record requests. The Office of Buildings publishes applications, documents, checklists, and permitting guidance. Projects may also require zoning, arborist, fire and life-safety, watershed, transportation, or other agency review depending on scope and location.

Inspections, code compliance, and certificates of occupancy

Atlanta offers building, trade, zoning, arborist, fire-protection, and related inspections. Inspection requests can be made through Accela, by email for eligible non-arborist requests, by phone, or by the city’s text process. The city says requests received before 3 p.m. are inspected within two business days, subject to the published process and project requirements. The Office of Buildings maintains permit, inspection, zoning-enforcement, and certificate-of-occupancy records.
