Rogers Community Risk Reduction Division absorbed the former Building Inspections Department and now provides a one-stop building and fire-safety review function for the City of Rogers. The division reviews residential and commercial plans before permits are issued and handles projects such as new buildings, additions, remodels, decks, storage buildings, storm shelters, demolitions, structural moves, and tents. Rogers Planning handles city zoning, land-use, and development review.

When a Rogers permit is required

The city’s official FAQ lists permits for new buildings and structures, additions, structural remodels and repairs, storm shelters, decks, covered patios, storage buildings, carports, fences over seven feet, swimming pools, demolitions, cell towers, tents over 400 square feet, and plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work. Cosmetic work such as painting, tiling, carpeting, and cabinet replacement generally does not require a permit, but the city encourages applicants to call Building Inspection before starting when the scope is uncertain.

Rogers online permitting portal

Rogers has transitioned to a new Planning, Permitting, and Licensing portal at permitting.rogersar.gov/publicportal/. The city says the portal supports online permit applications and account access; its portal guidance also describes applying for planning, building, and sign permits, scheduling inspections, searching property information, and checking planning status. Current city guidance should control over older CityView references, so use the newer portal link for an application or permit search.

Inspections, zoning, and occupancy

Rogers schedules inspections during the division’s permitting hours, and the city requires 24-hour notice for framing, gas or electric service, and final inspections, including requests made online. A new business, change of location, or change of ownership requires an occupancy inspection before the business license is issued; the city lists the certificate-of-occupancy cost as $25. Rogers does not issue permits outside city limits—unincorporated Benton County projects should be directed to Benton County Building Safety instead.
